Fall in the mountains brings its own kind of inspiration. Rich color, layered textures, cooler temperatures, and a beautiful natural backdrop all make it especially fun to dress for. For our latest fall wedding fashion edit, we looked to Highlands, North Carolina, to inspire an entire wedding weekend of style.
Earlier this year, we shared our guide to spring wedding guest attire. For fall, we’re taking the idea a step further with looks for the bride, bridesmaids, wedding guests, and rehearsal dinner.
Chelsea Kennedy Weddings collaborated with Lifestyled by Christy & Co. and Bone & Arrow Handmade Jewelry to create looks for everyone from the bride and bridesmaids to wedding guests. The palette pulls directly from the landscape: espresso, chartreuse, olive, and berry.
The result is a collection that feels distinctly fall without relying on the colors we see every year. Think rich brown instead of basic black, vibrant chartreuse mixed with deep olive, and berry tones that range from raspberry to wine.
Whether you’re planning your own wedding weekend or deciding what to wear to one, consider this our guide to fall wedding style in the mountains.

A destination is often one of our favorite places to begin when developing the visual direction for a wedding. Highlands offers plenty to work with.
The changing leaves introduce warm tones, while the surrounding evergreens bring deeper greens into the palette. Stone architecture, mountain views, and crisp fall weather add another layer of texture. Instead of matching those elements exactly, we used them as the starting point for the fashion.
Our final palette includes four colors: espresso, chartreuse, olive, and berry. Those shades appear in different ways throughout each collection, creating variety while still making the entire wedding weekend feel connected.
And that is an important distinction. Your wedding weekend wardrobe doesn’t need to match from one event to the next. A shared color story or a few repeated details can be enough to create cohesion.

For the bride, we started with the wedding gown and expanded from there. The bridal edit includes three distinct gown silhouettes alongside shorter white dresses, statement shoes, and pearl jewelry.
The three gowns from Anne Barge offer very different interpretations of classic bridal style. The Henrietta gown pairs a streamlined silhouette with a more dramatic overskirt. Anouk has a fitted strapless silhouette, while Selena brings lace and a high neckline into the mix.
For the events surrounding the wedding day, we love the idea of changing the silhouette while keeping the palette bridal. The Staud Albee Mini Dress adds texture and a playful feather detail, while the Azulu Oli Dress pairs a simple mini silhouette with a statement fringe sleeve.
Accessories are also an easy place to nod toward the fall palette. The Manolo Blahnik Carolyne Satin Slingback Pumps in olive or the Sam Edelman Hazel Plush Pumps feel unexpected with bridal white without competing with it.
Bone & Arrow’s pearl earrings complete the looks. The Kaitlin and Diana designs both bring in the organic shape and movement of pearls while still feeling polished enough for the wedding day.

Bridesmaid fashion has moved far beyond choosing one dress in one color for everyone. For a fall wedding, we especially love mixing complementary shades within a defined palette.
Our Highlands-inspired bridesmaid edit does exactly that. Berry, olive, bright pink, chartreuse, chocolate, and bronze tones create a bridal party that feels coordinated without looking overly matched.
The collection includes the Birdy Grey Bryten Luxe Knit Dress in Berry, Jennie Matte Satin Dress in Olive, and Bonnie Matte Satin Dress in Chocolate Brown.
We also included options from LulaKate and Bella Bridesmaids, allowing different silhouettes and fabrics to live within the same broader color story.
This approach works particularly well when the setting already provides so much visual interest. Against a Highlands fall landscape, these shades complement the surroundings rather than disappearing into them.
Neutral shoes keep the focus on the color palette. The Sam Edelman Elissa Block Heel Sandals and Antonio Melani Alice Leather Peep-Toe Block Heel Sandals both work beautifully across the range of bridesmaid colors, while pearl jewelry from Bone & Arrow brings consistency across different dresses. The Charlotte earrings and Maddie earrings are both beautiful options.

Cocktail attire gives guests plenty of room to have fun with color, texture, and accessories. If you’re not quite sure what cocktail attire means, or how it differs from other wedding dress codes, our Wedding Guest Attire 101 guide breaks down the most common dress codes before you start shopping. For this part of the fall wedding fashion edit, we leaned into rich browns, olive tones, chartreuse, and patterned fabrics. The inspiration board pairs these dresses with sculptural earrings, metallic shoes, and textured clutches.
A chartreuse dress is especially striking for an early fall wedding. The Tuckernuck Chartreuse Satin Sinclair Dress feels vibrant without reading summery when paired with warm accessories.
For a more neutral approach, brown is one of our favorite alternatives to black. The Manolo Blahnik Apidosa Embellished Satin Bow Pumps or a dark brown clutch add depth without making an outfit feel heavy.
Jewelry is another opportunity to add texture. Bone & Arrow’s Feldspar and Pearl Disc Earrings pair natural stone with pearl, making them especially fitting for the mountain-inspired palette.

For a black tie wedding, the same colors take on a more formal feel through floor-length silhouettes, satin, jacquard, pleating, and metallic accessories. The black tie edit includes berry gowns, rich greens, wine tones, and elegant statement jewelry.
The Elliatt Dahlira Gown brings a bold berry tone to the palette, while the AMUR Joyceann Sweetheart Gown goes deeper with pinot noir.
Green works beautifully here too. A satin or jacquard gown in olive or chartreuse feels sophisticated while still standing apart from the darker colors typically associated with fall formalwear.
For accessories, metallics are an easy complement. Gold heels and clutches warm up the greens and berries without introducing another competing color. The Tuckernuck Gabrielle Clutch is one option, while pearl statement earrings from Bone & Arrow bring another layer of texture.

The rehearsal dinner is a chance to relax the dress code slightly while still dressing for the setting and occasion. Our rehearsal dinner edit includes midi and maxi dresses in olive, berry, chartreuse, espresso, and patterned combinations of the same tones.
The Tuckernuck Evergreen Dupioni Helene Dress offers a structured olive option, while the Berry Dupioni Helene Dress brings the same silhouette into the brighter side of the palette.
For guests who prefer pattern, the Farm Rio x Anthropologie Fit-and-Flare Maxi Dress incorporates multiple colors and feels especially appropriate for a mountain destination.
Accessories can be a little more playful here, too. Bone & Arrow’s Tiger Eye Flower Earrings pick up the warmer espresso tones, while the Green Jade and Pearl Drops tie into the greens used throughout the collection.

One of the things we love most about planning a full wedding weekend is the opportunity to think beyond the ceremony and reception.
Fashion can become part of that larger design story.
That doesn’t mean asking every guest to follow an exact color palette or making every event look the same. Instead, think about how the destination, season, venue, florals, stationery, attire, and overall guest experience can speak to one another.
For this Highlands wedding weekend, espresso, chartreuse, olive, and berry provided a thread that could move easily from the bridal party to guest attire. Different fabrics and silhouettes keep each category distinct, while the shared colors make the overall inspiration feel intentional.
It’s also a reminder that fall wedding style doesn’t have to mean rust, orange, and burgundy. Look at the landscape around your venue. Consider colors you naturally love. Then give yourself room to interpret the season in a way that feels personal to your celebration.
